This special two-night, 10th anniversary celebration will span a full century of jazz, featuring a different eight-piece band each night and two completely different shows on Friday and Saturday. Come for one or both – and make a weekend of it! Go back in time as the Jazz Institute at PMAC faculty, made up of some of the Seacoast’s most distinguished jazz musicians, continues its tradition of transforming The Loft into an old-school jazz club.
On Friday (at 7pm & 9pm), we remember the origins of jazz with music from 1917 to 1967 – celebrating New Orleans Dixieland, swing, Bebop, and Modal jazz from Louis Armstrong to Charles Mingus, and more!
On Saturday (at 7pm & 9pm), we transport the audience from 1967 to the present – exploring free jazz, fusion, and the influences of rock and pop, with artists from Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock to Joshua Redman and Madeleine Peyroux.
The performers include: vocalists Taylor O’Donnell and Nicole Hajj, trumpeter Chris Klaxton, saxophonists Matt Langley and Russ Grazier, pianists Mike Effenberger and Jonny Peiffer, guitarists Bryan Bergeron Killough and Jim Dozet, bassists Nick Phaneuf and Steve Roy, and drummers Mike Walsh and Jim Rudolf.
Tickets are $25 per show (or $30 for limited cabaret table seating) and are available at themusichall.org, The Music Hall Box Office or by calling 603-436-2400. The Music Hall Loft is located at 131 Congress Street, Portsmouth, NH.
Jazz Night 2017 is generously presented by Tangram 3DS LLC with additional support from Jumpin’ Jay’s Fish Cafe. PMAC is grateful for contributions from businesses like these to make events like Jazz Night, which has become a PMAC tradition, possible!
