Weaver Sarah Haskell balances her community art projects with her personal studio art. “The Button Project: a 9/11 Memorial” owned by the city of Portsmouth was her first community art project (2002) and is currently on loan to the National September 11th Memorial and Museum in NYC. Her community art projects engage diverse groups of people in a creative dialogue, seeking to uncover common threads as well as those that define differences. Sarah’s own hand-dyed, woven pieces dig into personal questions often to uncover universal heartache and delight. This dynamic symbiosis between her studio art and the community, the individual and the collective, has driven Sarah’s artistic practice for decades.
