Portsmouth Music and Arts Center and Circulus present:
Wanderkook’s Field Notes on Music – Featuring Jonny Peiffer and Christos Vayenas.
Wanderkook’s Field Notes is a work-in-progress series allowing audiences unprecedented access to the development of the Wanderkook Project. Created in 2007 by composer Jonny Peiffer, the Wanderkook Project is a multi-media collaboration involving world class artists Dean Diggins, Dan Beaulieu, Sarah Duclos, Sojoy, CJ Lewis, Catherine Stewert, Sara Peiffer, and many more. The Wanderkook Project will culminate with a theatrical run of ‘The Adventures of Oliver Z. Wanderkook’ presented by New Hampshire Theatre Project at West End Studio Theatre in June 2017.
Wanderkook’s Field Notes on Music will allow audiences a peak at the Peiffer’s process as a composer and will include performances of the original Wanderkook piano score (which has since been orchestrated for the 5-horn Sojoy for their June performances). The fictional Wanderkook is himself an ethnomusicologist, having documented the many different music and dance traditions of the 9 tribes he met in The Land of the Two Suns.
Christos Vayenas is a pianist, composer, interviewer, and meditation guide. One of his many projects is The Autumn Salon (theautumnsalon.com), a blog where he conducts in-depth interviews with master musicians and artists from around the globe. Through performance and demonstration, Vayenas will be bring his knowledge of forgotten techniques and traditions to facilitate the conversation about What Is Music!
